Ya Gotta Break a Few Eggs (and Laws?)

No one is yet in a position to judge whether former Bear Stearns hedge fund managers Ralph Cioffi and Matthew Tannin's attempts to make money were criminal. I suppose, though, I should not be amazed that criminal culpability is first laid at the feet of Wall Street, and not on top executives at the firms that made the questionable loans to begin with -- for example, the folks over at Countywide. But Cioffi and Tannin are not alone in being prosecuted, despite marquis news coverage that might lead one to believe the contrary.

China's Newest Propagandists: The American Media

I suppose nothing should shock me anymore, but I'm astounded that ABC is reporting Chinese government propaganda about its "Happy Homeland" temporary Styrofoam houses as straight news. Yup, looks like the Chinese government is right on top of its problems. Sheesh!

Layoffs in Sufragette City?

(Note: I was unable to post the following to Blogger.com just after four p.m. today because of technical problems. My best guess is that the site was overwhelmed with traffic.)

Probably the biggest blogospheric sign that big things are happening the Democratic presidential primary is the fact that blogger.com is incapable of handling the traffic thrown at it at this moment.

The biggest real-world sign that there's movement afoot is the fact that Clinton campaign staffers are being told to get their expense reports in order and get their butts to NYC to hear Hillary's speech tomorrow night.

Oh yeah, and then there's Bill declaring for at least the second time in his political life that today might be the "last day he was involved in a campaign of this kind."

Stay tuned, as they say.

Real time non sequitor update: The Stanley Cup has entered the building at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. Sigh.
